Norman Gray Yarber, age 87, of Stuart, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at his home.

He was born on March 5, 1929 in High Point, N.C., to the late Cameron Thorne Yarber and Ruby Johnson Yarber.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a graduate of North Carolina State University. After graduation, he worked for J.P. Stevens, Inc. until his retirement. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Marilyn S. Yarber of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Larry Crutsinger of Norfolk; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve Yarber of Durham, N.C., and Brian and Leigh Yarber of Wentworth, N.C.; six grandchildren; Kimberly, Brent, Ashley, Grace, C.J. and Megan; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harold Dean and Helen Yarber of Teachey, N.C. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Patrick Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert Belcher officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
