Earl Cornelius Dawson, 98, died Friday, October 21, 2016, at Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville.
He was born October 5, 1918, in Hurt and was a son of the late John William and Lillie Vaughn Dawson. He was also predeceased by his wife, Lucille Lynch Dawson, and three sisters, Catherine Pilson, Margaret Bennett, and Madelin Elgin.
He was of the Baptist faith. He had served in the United States Army during World War II, where he advanced to the rank of sergeant. He retired from DuPont with 29 years of service.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Dawson of Richmond and Ricky Dawson of Bassett; one brother, Joseph Dawson of Woolwine; two sisters, Ruth Morrison of Woolwine, and Doris Atkins of Salem; and three grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Monday in the Roselawn Chapel with J. Thaddeus F. Christian officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Donations in his memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart VA 24171.
