Mr. Erik Daniel Rakes, age 41, of Critz, Virginia passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on December 24, 1983, to John Moir Rakes and Teresa Lynn Rakes. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Carrie Rakes; maternal grandmother, Linda Bond; and “like a grandmother”; Dot Gammons. Erik was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was the best handyman and could fix anything; he loved life and worked hard to provide for his family, whom he loved so much. Erik loved anything outdoors from hunting, fishing, kayaking, disc golf, and four wheeling. He was the life of the party and loved his friends and family. He will be loved and missed forever by all who knew him.
Left to cherish the memory of Erik Rakes are his wife, Amber Rorrer Rakes of the home; one son, Collin Daniel Rakes of the home; his parents, John Moir Rakes and Teresa Lynn Rakes of Stuart, VA; one sister, Kayla Rakes (Payton Richardson) of Bassett, VA; mother-in-law, Teresa Martin (Danny) of Sandy Ridge, NC; father-in-law, Steve Rorrer (Kelly) of Stuart, VA; sister-in-law, Tiffany Whorley (Dustin) of Charity, VA; brother-in-law, Shawn Rorrer (Amy) of Indian Valley, VA; four nieces, McKenzie Whorley, Rylee Whorley, Adalee Quesnberry, Paislynn Richardson; five nephews, Titus Rorrer, Asher Rorrer, Jacob Quesnberry, Jase Rakes, Isaiah Richardson; and his beloved dog and constant companion; Rona.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, at Moody Funeral Services in Stuart at 3:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Moore officiating. The burial will immediately follow in High Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday afternoon.
