Congratulations to Gavin McGhee and Nash Thompson, of the Patrick County High School Fishing Team, and their boat captain Scottie Thompson.

The two qualified and competed in the 2022 Abu Garcia Bassmaster High School National Championship presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors at Lake Hartwell, South Carolina in August. They were among four teams that represented Virginia in the National competition.

What a great accomplishment to make it to the High School National Championship. Patrick County High School Fishing Team may not have come home with the win, but Patrick County is beaming with pride after watching these guys fish in the National Championship.

Competing against 300 plus teams is no easy task. The guys fought hard, spending hours on the lake, both practicing and competing, and PC is very proud of them! They showed great sportsmanship throughout the whole tournament, a PCHS tradition. (Submitted by Sandra Heath, Hylton Scott)
