George Cable Guynn, 78, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday morning, November 29, 2016, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, N.C.
He was born November 26, 1938, in Carroll County, a son of the late Andrew Franklin and Leathe Jane Hiatt Gwyn. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ramey Guynn; two sisters, Brenda Gwyn and Louise Gwyn; two brothers, James Gwyn and William “Bill” Gwyn; and three brothers-in-law, Roby Hiatt, John Barr, and the Rev. Junior Corn.
He worked as a foreman at Mount Airy Furniture Company for many years, and then he later retired from Ramey Inc. in King, N.C. He was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Haynes Guynn of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Lane Beshears of Elkin; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Crystal and Craig Bullins of Pfafftown, N.C., and Vickie Stanley and Kay and Mike Vaught, all of Fries; two grandchildren, Matthew Beshears and Sarah Beshears, both of Elkin; several stepgrandchildren; six sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Lindsay Allen and Margaret Coalson, both of Ararat, Elsie Mae Hiatt and Julia Ann Barr, both of Cana; and Mamie and Clarence Smith and Ruth Corn, all of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Linda Gwyn of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
