Girls’ tennis loses at Bassett

The Patrick County High School Lady Cougar tennis team traveled to Jaycee Park to play the Lady Bengals of Bassett last Tuesday afternoon. They were defeated by Bassett High 0-9.
“Madalyn McFarlane (#2 seed) and Hannah Martin (#4 seed) played well in their singles matches,” said Coach Megan Richardson. “The doubles team of Gracen Baliles and Hannah Martin had an excellent match, only losing by a couple games.”

Singles: #1: Morgan Scott (BH) def Shyann Walter (PC) 8-0; #2: Natalie Black (BH) def Madalyn McFarlane (PC) 8-3; #3: Brooke Houston (BH) def Gracen Baliles (PC) 8-0; #4: Colleen Lawson (BH) def Hannah Martin (PC) 8-5;#5: Mallory Scott (BH) def Helen Dawson (PC) 8-0; #6: Brooklin D. (BH) def Ashton Young (PC) 8-1.
Doubles: #1: Scott/Black (BH) def Walter/McFarlane(PC) 8-2; #2: Houston/Lawson (BH) def Baliles/Martin (PC) 8-6; #3: J. Bean/Brooklin (BH) def Dawson/Young (PC) 8-2.
The Lady Cougars traveled to Christiansburg Monday afternoon and to Ferrum College Tuesday to play Franklin County; they travel to Halifax Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. match against the Lady Comets.
