Gladys Mae Bowman Boyd, 93, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Twelve Oaks in Mount Airy.
She was born in Patrick County on April 16, 1922, and was a daughter of the late Dewey Lee and Martha Ann Hall Bowman. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Joshua Smith; sisters, Marie Bowman and Rosanne Haymore; and a brother, John D. Bowman.
She retired from Smart Top Hosiery and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Janet Smith of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Glenna Hicks of Mount Airy; sons, Jerry Bowman of Mount Airy and Winfrey Boyd of Jefferson, N.C.; seven grandchildren seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Opal Bateman of Ararat, and Margaret Dowdy, Frances and Weldon Tobler, all of Mount Airy; one brother, Homer Bowman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Friday at Doe Run Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist, the Rev. Homer Bowman, and Weldon Tobler officiating.
