Glaten Wood “Woody”, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born in Charity, Virginia to the late E.K. Wood and Bertha Nolen Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Peggy Wray Wood; two brothers, Hanford Wood and Gifford Wood; four sisters, Eura Tuggle, Essie Nolen, Viola Rorrer, and Lucy Opal Wood; two nephews and one niece. Glaten worked for Ramsey/Duncan Ford in Rocky Mount, Virginia in the body paint shop until his retirement. Glaten was known for being an avid sportsman of hunting and fishing. He had a sharp mind and an eagle eye for spotting his favorite wildlife. He spoke affectionately about his favorite bird dogs Toby and Speck. Glaten was a true outdoorsman. He also loved NASCAR racing and pulling for the Wood Brothers Racing Team.

He is survived by his sister, Edna Mae Atkins , and husband, Ed Atkins; stepdaughter, Jennifer Wray; two step-grandsons, Brayden and Cayson Walmsley; several nieces and nephews; special nieces dear to his heart, Denise Taylor and husband, Ronnie Taylor, Brenda Belcher; and nephew, Gary Atkins.

A funeral service will be held for Mr. Wood on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Rick Randall officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in the Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations be made to Franklin County Humane Society or Martinsville SPCA.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
