Mabel Dalton Rakes

Mrs. Mabel Dalton Rakes, age 92 of Stuart, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Laurel Meadows. She was born in Patrick County to the late Arthur Everette Dalton and Annice Magaline Hall Dalton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Norman Rakes; two daughters, Brenda Meyers, Ruth Bushnell; two grandchildren, Michelle Rivera, Barry Simmons; one son-in-law, C. Douglas Lawson; three sisters, Evelyn Wiggington, Grace Mae Dalton, Claris Dalton Hall; and three brothers, Herman, Edward, and Richard Dalton. Mabel was a Godly woman and longtime member of Harvest Worship Center. She had been a babysitter for many years. She loved flowers, red birds, and hummingbirds. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and was affectionately known as Granny Rakes.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Roger Mabe of Woodlawn, Norma and Tim Goard of Stuart, Carol and R.J. Hall of Stuart; six grandchildren, Joey Mabe, Amanda Hubbard, Dwain Lawson, Jessica Owens and husband, Ronnie, Travis Hall and wife, April, Andrea Alderman and husband, Daniel; 17 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Gregory of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 4:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Pastor David Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 E.
