Harvey Lee Pruitt

Harvey Lee Pruitt, age 86 of Stuart, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on September 8, 1938, to the late William “Will” Pruitt and Pencie Dunkley Pruitt. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pruitt was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Hubbard Pruitt; nine siblings, Lois P. Owens, James Pruitt, Walter Pruitt, Dot P. Gammons, Paul Pruitt, George Pruitt, Anne P. Adkins, Maggie P. Whitlow, and Ruby P. Spence. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. He had been a former co-owner of the Bull Mountain Bugle and owner of Harvey’s Service Center. He enjoyed posting on his Facebook, gardening, and mowing the lawn. He was a beloved bus driver for the Patrick County Public School System for 34 years; he dearly loved the children who rode his bus. Harvey’s greatest joy was his family, he will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Mr. Pruitt is survived by a son, Randy Pruitt of Stuart; a daughter, Debbie Pruitt of Stuart; a grandchild, Erin Pruitt Alexander (Jason); three great-grandchildren, Trent, Evan and Kameryn Alexander; one sister, Kenzie Penland of Madison, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Ginger.

The funeral service for Mr. Pruitt will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor J.R. Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to PAWS (Patrick Animal Welfare Society), P.O. Box 743, Stuart, VA 24171, or to the American Cancer Society, 1079C Spruce Street, Martinsville, VA 24112.
