Helen Mae “Hedge” Hiatt, age 84, formerly of Cana, died Friday January 22, 2016, at the Trinity Mission of Hillsville.
She was born December 13, 1931 in Carroll County and was a daughter of the late Mattie Fleming Hiatt and Thomas L. Hiatt. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Polly Easter Stevens and Mabel Louise Hiatt, four brothers, Stuart Hiatt, Clyde Hiatt, Doug Hiatt and Lester Hiatt; and a special sister-in-law Kate Hiatt.
She was a retired caregiver and was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Bowman of Mount Airy, N.C.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Lucy Mills of Mount Airy, Nancy Utt of Ararat, and Gay Dunn of Advance, N.C.; and two brothers, Gilbert Hiatt of Cana and Jimmy Hiatt of Fancy Gap..
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday at Mount Bethel Moravian Church cemetery by Rev. Charles Fishel.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Trinity Mission of Hillsville for all the love and care given to her during her stay with them.
Memorial donations may be made to Mount Bethel Moravian Church, 127 Mount Bethel Rd. Cana, VA. 24317.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
