Fire destroyed a house in the Fairystone/Woolwine community Feb. 15 and two residents were injured while trying to fight the fire, according to Steve Allen, emergency management coordinator.
Four fire departments responded to the 7:47 a.m. fire call at 2035 Fish Pond Drive, trying to extinguish the blaze in cold temperatures and heavy snow, but the wood frame house burned to the ground, Allen said.
Two residents, a 40-year-old male and a 32-year-old female, suffered burns and were transported to a hospital. The man was later transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. for treatment of severe burns, while the woman’s injuries were less serious, Allen said.
Fire departments fighting the fire included Woolwine, Fairystone, Patrick Springs and Patrick Henry. The Smith River Rescue Squad also responded to the scene and transported the victims.
The American Red Cross and the Patrick Department of Emergency Management also responded.
The firefighters were on the scene until about 9:30 a.m., Allen said.
