Mrs. Jean Bryant Stovall, age 93 of Patrick Springs, Virginia, passed away at home after a brief illness with the flu on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

She was born on March 17, 1932, in Henry County to the late Henry Clyde Bryant and Edna Mae Shelton Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Augustus Stovall; two brothers, Clenard Bryant, Edward Bryant; one sister, Betty Nelson; brothers in-law, Neil Craig, Arthur Martin, Cornelius Stovall, Glenn Stovall, Ralph Shelton, James Stovall; sisters-in-law, Cindy Stovall, Gladys Bryant, and Amanda Stovall; and one son-in-law, Robert Louden. A competitive bowler, Jean found joy within her Sportlanes bowling leagues, considering her teammates as an extended family. Beyond the lanes, Jean was an enthusiast of all college sports, especially the UNC Tarheels. Her competitive nature shone brightly in every aspect of her life, whether it be cards, cornhole, horseshoes, etc. She loved flowers and found solace in working diligently in her yard and garden. Jean held a special place in the community as the oldest member at Pleasant View Baptist Church, a congregation she joined in 1953. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built many aspects of her life, gathering with friends and family in fellowship and love across generations. Her joy for life, fierce determination, and commitment to her passions will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her. Jean’s legacy, marked by love for family, friends, and her community, will continue to inspire and resonate through the lives she touched.

Left to cherish the memories of Jean Stovall are her children, Deborah Louden of Tennessee; Rodney Stovall (Sandra) of Stuart; four grandchildren, Brian Louden (Rachel), Andrew Louden (Brittany), Brittany Smart (Jared), Brett Stovall (Kaitlin); one great-grandson, Grady Smart; one brother, Jesse Bryant (Sue) of Bassett, two sisters, Dorothy Craig of Patrick Springs, Frances Martin of Patrick Springs; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Shelton of Ferrum, Nancy Stovall of Patrick Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Stovall will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Pleasant View Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Joey McNeil officiating. The burial will immediately follow in John Adams Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 4432 Pleasant View Drive, Patrick Springs, VA 24133, or to the John Adams Family Cemetery Fund.
