Jean Wood Belcher, age 83 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Patrick County on October 2, 1939, to the late Benton U. Wood and Claudine Hall Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Belcher; a brother, Buford Calvin Wood; two brothers-in-law, Larry Brannon and Marvin Belcher; a sister-in-law, Marie Brannon; and her mother-in-law, Myrtle Belcher. Jean modeled compassion and kindness with everyone she met. She was known for her smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was the matriarch of her family and a prayer warrior in her church, Mountain View Church in Meadows of Dan. Jean leaves behind a powerful legacy in faith and in love for her family and church family. Jean’s memory will live on in the hearts of many that she touched and prayed for. We have been very blessed to have had such an incredible woman in our lives. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Aleta and Terry Martin of Meadows of Dan, Michelle and Matt Turman of Laurel Fork;  four granddaughters, Brittany and husband, (Chris) Miller, Jessica and husband, (Jon) Hubbard, Chelsea and husband, (Nate) Mullins, Haley Turman and (Brandon Shields) who each have many heartwarming memories to hold on to; her six great-grandchildren, Eliza and Nolan Miller, Lillian and Arlo Hubbard, and Braxton and Josie Mullins lit up her day and she loved to hear their sweet voices call her “Gigi”; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Leo Boyd of Meadows of Dan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Barbara Wood of Woolwine, Harry and Kay Wood of Kingsport, TN, Richard and Karen Wood of Meadows of Dan, three sisters-in-law, Arlene Wood (Robert), Rita Wood, Elva Belcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry Martin and Pastor Marcus Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 156, Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
