John W. “Bill” East, 80, of Martinsville, passed away on Sunday, February 29, 2017, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

He was born in Patrick County on March 19, 1936 to the late John Lee East and the late Gladys Angeline Fulcher East. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Daphne Lowery; stepson, Rodney Manning; and brother, James D. East.

Bill served his country in the National Guard. He was a charter member of the Patrick Springs Fire Department and a former member of Patrick Springs Ruritan Club.Surviving are his wife, Margaret Frances East; son, Rodney East; stepson, Randy Manning; stepdaughters, Donna Dupree and Sandra Blevins; daughter-in-law, Leah Manning; and six grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, February 22) at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral service at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.Online condolences may be made by visiting  www.bassettfuneralservice.com.
