John “Johnny” William Moran, 89, of Bassett, died Saturday, September 3, 2016.
He was born on April 4, 1927 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Volney Dolphus Moran and Virginia DeHart Moran. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Moran Semones; six sisters and two brothers.
He was a United States Navy veteran who served in World War II. He was an active member of Fort Trial Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and deacon. He played in the band, Johnny Moran and the Country Hillbillies. He was also a member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Marie Fulcher Moran of the home; son, Kenny Moran of Ridgeway; daughter, Rhonda Moran Morris Neal of Ridgeway; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday at Fort Trial Christian Church in Bassett with Ministers Milford Witt and Dave Cuthbertson officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
Memorial donations may be made to, Fort Trial Christian Church, 6356 Virginia Ave, Bassett, VA 24055.
