It was a tough week of competition for the Patrick County High School Lady Cougar volleyball team from two of their key rivals—Bassett and Franklin County.

The Lady Cougars fought aggressively to beat the Bassett Lady Bengals in three sets 25-23, 25-21 and 28-26 last Tuesday night. Both teams fought for the victory; however, the Lady Cougars wanted it more since the Lady Bengals defeated PC in their earlier match-up. The Lady Cougars maintained their poise and pulled out the three-set win.

Izzy Beasley had nine kills and two blocks. Morgan Biggs had eight kills, three aces and seven digs. Ashlee Mesot had 24 assists while Sydney Biggs had five kills, 12 digs and six aces.

Thursday’s game in Franklin County against the Lady Eagles was another hard-fought battle. The Lady Eagles won in three sets 22-25, 24-26, 11-25.

The Lady Cougars were within striking distance of the Lady Eagles for the first two sets, but it appeared that fatigue caught up with the Lady Cougars for the final set of the evening.

Morgan Biggs had nine kills, and Sydney Biggs had six kills, three aces and eight digs. Ashlee Mesot had 13 assists in the match.

Patrick County played at George Washington of Danville Tuesday; they will travel to Tunstall for a match Thursday.
