The Lady Cougars took the court against the Lady Trojans of Tunstall.
The Cougars struggled in shooting tonight, but still managed to take down the Trojans 58-14. According to Coach Donnie Rakes, “It was an interesting night. It was a good win for the Lady Cougars. Unfortunately, we had two important players to get hurt- Lindsey Marshall and Abby Dillon. They are a crucial part of our team. We did not shoot the ball well at all, but everyone on the roster scored. It’s hard playing games like this. My hat’s off to them. Tunstall played really hard. They were just outmanned. My kids played hard. It was kind of ugly, but a win is a win.” For the seniors, tonight was an emotional night. Although their season is not over, it could be the last time playing in front of our home crowd. A win over Halifax tomorrow would seal a home court advantage for the first round of the District Tournament Friday night. All four of the seniors agreed they didn’t have a great night shooting, despite the fact they won by such a big margin. Hannah Roberson said, “It was tough. We had to fight through our difficulties. We just had to keep shooting.” Riya Patel commented, “We had a few injuries, but we had to push through.” Izzy Beasley said, “We weren’t making shots, but we had to overcome that and just play our game.” Lindsey Marshall added, “Our shots didn’t fall, so that was tough.” Hannah Roberson led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds, followed by Izzy Beasley with 13 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. Lindsey Marshall had 3 points, 5 steals, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in the game. Sierra Hubbard pulled down 14 rebounds, scored 8, and had 2 steals.
The Lady Cougars are 18-3 for the season.
