The Patrick County Library and Bookmobile will be using a new incentive program for the annual summer reading called ‘Splash and Read.’ The plan is for participants (preschool-teens) to receive punch cards, like those used in the “Book it” Pizza Hut program from the 1990s.
Participants must attend four out of the seven summer reading programs provided at the library and submit their reading time log, which should be signed by their parents. Parents will also play a role in this effort by taking their child to the events and agreeing to the reading goals. Reading goals will vary based on age. Once the child finishes the punch card, both the child and their parent will get a free pass to the pool.
The summer reading program began on June 1 and runs until July 28. This will give participants a few weeks to finish their punch cards and use their pass at the pool in Stuart before it closes in August. On July 28, the Splash and Read finale will be held at DeHart Park, with awards distributed at that time.
