Adults and several 6th and 7th grade members of the Jr. Beta Club worked to “plant” the Little Library at Meadows of Dan Elementary School. Adults pictured are (back row, L to R) Jason Wood, principal; Harvie Spangler, Andrea Frazier, Jim Henningson and Pat Stanley.

The Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club presented Meadows of Dan Elementary School with a “Free Little Library.”

It is located in front of the school, with the purpose of providing students and community residents the opportunity to take – or leave — a free book to share.

Jorge Newton, with Village Trim, built the library that resembles a perfect red barn, topped with a weather vane.

The Ruritan Club plans to place two more Free Little Libraries: One will be located at Mountain Top Recreation Park; the other will be placed in uptown Meadows of Dan.

Tammy Cope, with the Patrick County Bookmobile, will supply some of the books for the Free Little Library, coordinating her efforts with Garry Clifton and the Patrick County Branch Library.

The library will be stocked with free books for youngsters, with the goal to inspire readers and build our community one reader at a time.

Principal Jason Wood and Beta Club students participated in the ‘planting’ of the Free Little Library.

Braedon Augustine, vice president of the Junior Beta Club, said, “I am proud to be helping with an important community project like this. I hope it is used by a lot of kids and they read more every day.”
