Mrs. Lucille Harris Akers, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Fondly called “Cille” and “Mama Cille,” she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Lucille was born October 24, 1931, to the late M. E . Harris Sr. and Gertrude Dillon Harris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James T. Akers, brothers Martin Harris and Harman Harris.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Akers Holmgaard and husband Tom, and son, Brian Akers and wife Trinh. She is also survived by three cherished grandsons, Emory Holmgaard, Isaac Holmgaard, and Tas Akers and a beloved granddaughter, Kelsey Holmgaard. She is also survived by her loving sister, Louise Marion and husband Jim and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial graveside service was held at Woolwine United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Memorial may be made to The American Diabetes Association 530 E. Main Street, Suite 200, Richmond, Va. 23219 or The American Cancer Society, P.O. 7017, Roanoke, Va. 24019-0017. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Salem Presbyterian Church in Salem, Virginia, for every act of kindness they have shown to Mrs. Akers.
