Mr. Marion Akers Wood, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection after a lengthy illness. He was born in Patrick County, on December 27, 1934 to the late Oscar Lee Wood and Myrtie Fulcher Wood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Hoy, Glenn, Donald and Aaron Wood; four sisters, Arlene Smith, Doris Holt, Demris Holt and Violet Elgin.
Mr. Wood attended Ferrum Junior College and retired from United Elastic Corporation with more than 40 years of service. He served two years in the Army National Guard and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was an avid Rook player, loved to pitch horse shoes and loved all sports in general.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Barbara Rorrer Wood of the home; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Wood; brothers-in-law, Lester Holt and Randolph Elgin; and his Godson, Chip Slate of Stuart.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Rick Randall and Derrick Layman officiating. Burial was at Patrick Memorial Gardens.
