Mary Lois Simmons, 84, of Vienna, Va., died Monday, June 20, 2016.
She was the daughter of the late Sparrell Clayton Rakes and Rada Martin Rakes of Fairystone. Husband Richard S. Simmons, daughter Tamera L. Collins, sister Ethel Via, and brothers Willis C. Rakes and Ralph Rakes predeceased her.
Mary Lois is survived by daughters Montie K. Simmons and Sheree (Kevin) O’Neil, and five grandchildren, Justine Amelia O’Neil, Riley (Sara) Simmons O’Neil, Bridget (Nicholas) Augusta Sanders, Matthew Nolen Collins and Emily Mary Collins; one sister Vera Bryant, one brother Chester E. Rakes, in-laws Mary Simmons, Wayne (Louise) Simmons, Hugh White Jr., Linward S. (Carolyn) Simmons, Betty Lou Clark, son-in-law Dan Collins, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Fairfax Baptist Church for over 50 years. She particularly enjoyed serving her church as a deacon and the Christian fellowship it afforded. Another lifelong pursuit was the game of tennis with her dear friends at Fairfax Racquet Club. She relished her time on the court and the fun and companionship that followed.
A memorial was held Monday, June 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Fairfax Baptist Church, 10830 Main Street, Fairfax, Va., 22030.
