obit shoughRichard Luther Shough Jr., 96, of Martinsville, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born on May 13, 1920, and was a son of the late Annie Shough and Richard Luther Shough Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ray Shough; a sister, Pauline Shough Plaster and husband James; two brothers, Raymond Shough and wife Tava, and Eldon Shough.
He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and was self-employed as a paint contractor. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Panama.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Colleen Shough of Patrick Springs, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Sunday at Providence United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Vernon officiating. A private burial followed the memorial service. Military rites were performed by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be made to Providence Cemetery Association, c/o Larry Vernon, 255 Vernon Drive, Stuart, Va., 24171.
