Miles Sylvester Harris

Mr. Miles Sylvester Harris, age 86, of Stuart, VA passed away on January 10, 2025, at The Landmark Center in Stuart. He was born on April 20, 1938, to the late Elder Oscar Allen Harris and Linda Belle Surratt Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Dale Harris.

Miles began his working career with VDOT in Salem, VA in the Drafting Room in 1959.  He then enlisted in the Army and served in Turkey and Germany until his discharge in August 1965 as SP5. Later, he worked in construction from 1964 to 1977, and owned Patrick Home Center from 1978 to 1987. He was self-employed in construction and was a licensed electrician and plumber until retirement. Miles served as a Deacon at New River Primitive Baptist Church until the church was dissolved. He was a member of Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Mr. Harris is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shelby Jean Conner Harris; his children, Wanda Carr (Jerry), Sandra Belcher (Robert), Michael Belcher (Teresa), Bobby Harris, and Eddie Harris (Alison), six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon Harris (Beverly) and Mavin Harris (Crystal); a sister, Linda Hatcher (Bert); and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Slate Mountain Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Elder David Kamoda and Elder Dan Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Lloyd Harbour, 130 Winding Stair Road, Stuart, VA  24171.
