Patricia “Pat” Vipperman

June 14, 1939 – January 11, 2025

Patricia “Pat” Vipperman, beloved teacher, adventurer, and devoted mother, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Roanoke, VA.

A native of Stuart, VA, it was there she met her soulmate and future husband, the late Joseph Vipperman, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.

Pat earned her biology degree from the College of William and Mary, launching a fulfilling career as a seventh-grade biology teacher. Her classroom was a place of wonder and discovery, where students could always expect the unexpected – from rescued baby bunnies to visiting snakes. Her creative “Science lessons of the day” not only educated but inspired generations of students, making her a perpetual favorite among those lucky enough to pass through her classroom.

Following their retirement, Pat and Joe embarked on a series of remarkable adventures, fulfilling their dream of visiting all seven continents. Pat found particular joy in her life at Smith Mountain Lake, where she was an active member of the GRITS (Girls Raised In The South) group, creating lasting friendships and memories.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Jody Vipperman Saarmaa of Boston; her son, Robert Vipperman of Hickory, NC; and her grandson, Mac Paine of Roanoke, VA.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta, VA on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Pat can be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish Memorial Fund, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121. Condolences may be shared with her family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.

Arrangements by Oakey’s Funeral Service – South Chapel, Roanoke, VA (540) 989-3131.
