Mother Juanita King Smith transitioned peacefully from mortal to immortality on Thursday, August 13th at her home. She was born November 18th, 1920 to Richard and Margaret Ida Simmons King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Smith; a daughter, Ethel Carter; a son Orbin Swanson Smith (“Big O”); four sisters, Irene George, Estelle Hatcher, Rosie Reynolds, Cletious Linster; and five brothers, Arthur, Gentry, Valiton, Richard and Cornelius King.

Surviving are 2 sons, Edward Smith Jr. of Mount Vernon, NY and Morris S. “Smitty” Smith of Martinsville; a daughter, Shirley S. Flood of Martinsville. She raised 4 grandchildren as her own, Patricia Alcorn Hairston, Jeffrey Lynnwood Alcorn, Phillip Reginald Alcorn which is deceased, as well as Orbin “Binky” Smith which predeceased her. She has a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was the church Mother at Samaria Holiness Church. She was always telling everyone she encountered to get saved and stay saved. She was a living testimony of how a True Christian is supposed to be. She had a beautiful anointed singing voice that touched so many. She would sing on many programs throughout her years. Along with her sisters and brothers she sang on WHEO in Stuart, Va for over 47 years. She loved her family and was very stern for what she believed in. She has been through many trials and hurts but she remained a “Strong Soldier” for the Lord.

God Blessed Juanita to live a very long and gratifying life. Just 3 months short of being “100” years old. What a Joy to have had her in our lives for so long. We love her but God could see she was getting tired and was ready to go home to be with him. She has truly made a mark in this world with a life well lived. She is now at rest and at peace. We will miss you but you will never, ever be forgotten.

A special “Thank You” to the nurses that helped with the care of Juanita, especially Tasha that went far beyond the call of duty to help with the care that was needed. It was much appreciated.

Following Covid19 guidelines, a homegoing service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Drucilla Hairston officiating. Burial will follow in the Samaria Holiness Church Cemetery. Friends may come by the funeral home on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 12 to 5 to pay their respects. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
