Mr. John Peter “J.P” Via

  Mr. John Peter “J.P” Via, age 88, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2021, at his home.  He was born in Wentworth, North Carolina on September 5, 1932, to the late Elijah Barnard Via and Bertha Luvada Money Via.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Via was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fern Hylton Via; a sister, Joan Elizabeth Craddock, and a stepbrother, Gene Money.

         Mr. Via began farming at the age of 14, and his love for farming continued throughout his life.  In the early 1960’s Via’s Orchard was established which was the home of the First Virginia Peach Festival. He was a member of Stella Christian Church, and his wife Fern was the love of his life.

         Mr. Via is survived by one nephew, Paul Craddock; one niece, Sharon Moser and several cousins and friends.

         Funeral services for Mr. Via will be held Monday July 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will follow in Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday morning.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
