 Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Penn Hagwood

 Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Penn Hagwood, age 93 of Patrick Springs, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  She was born in Patrick County on October 8, 1927 to the late Valley and Mary Belle Cobb Penn.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Posey Lester Hagwood; one son, George Robert Hagwood; four sisters, Georgia Hairston, Laura Nowlin, Lucy Hylton, Nannie Reynolds; and two brothers, John and Samuel Penn.  Mrs. Hagwood was a longtime member of Mt. Nebo Holiness Church and was the Mother of the Church.

Surviving is five daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and David Penn, Nannie and Lawrence Hylton, Wanda Welch, Betty Hagwood, Shirley Dodson; four sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Hagwood, Sammy and Gloria Hagwood, Moses and Wanda Hagwood, Thomas and Ivy Hagwood; 29 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Maggie Penn; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hagwood will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Mt. Nebo Holiness Church with Pastor Leander Reynolds officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Nebo Holiness Church Cemetery.  A wake will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Online condolences may be made to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
