B.J. Nolan will serve as chairman and Pat Delaney was elected secretary.

The county’s Tourism Office will be the Treasurer.

The committee also is known as Patrick County’s Semiquincentennial Committee. Its members are organizing the upcoming local commemorations of America’s 250th birthday and works to continue laying the groundwork for the semiquincentennial.

Organizations affiliated with Patrick County’s VA250 include the Daughters of American Revolution, Sons of American Revolution, Patrick County Historical Society, and Patrick County Tourism.

Visit VA250 Facebook Page, and VA250.org to keep up with Virginia’s calendar of events and attend the next meeting of the local committee to get involved. It is set for August 7 at 6 p.m. at a location to be determined. Anyone with an interest in history or who just wants to be a part of planning the events is encouraged to join the committee. Contact James Houchins at jhouchins@ co.patrick.va.us. for more information.
