KENNETH “JACK” HOLT
Kenneth “Jack” Holt, age 72, of Claudville, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville, N.C. He was born in Patrick County on July 10, 1945, to the late Harvey and Virginia Lawson Holt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Benny Holt.
He is survived by two granddaughters, Jessica Hutchens and Lacey Harbour; four sisters, Ann Holt and Barbara Brown, both of Claudville, Mildred Collins of Stuart, Audrey Pendleton and husband, Delano of Stuart; six brothers, Roger Holt and wife, Debra of Stuart, Randy Holt of Mount Airy, N.C., Claude Holt of Claudville, James Holt and wife, Regina of Westfield, N.C., William Holt and wife, Karen of Claudville, Leonard Holt of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held (today) Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Stuart Mauck officiating. Burial will follow in Creasey’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. ERNESTINE “TEENY” JOYCE AMOS
Ernestine “Teeny” Joyce Amos, age 86, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at North Pointe Assisted Living of Mayodan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Junior Amos; daughter-in-law, Sharon Smith-Amos; brother-in-law, Audrey Foley; and sister-in-law, Peggy Joyce.
She was born August 19, 1931, in Rockingham County to the late Frank Edward and Mozelle Cardwell Joyce. She was a member of Ayersville Baptist Church and was a retired teacher assistant from Sandy Ridge School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed working in her flowers and always loved helping others.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Amos (Patsy) and Ricky Amos; grandchildren, Chad Amos (Stephanie), Jeramy Taylor (Nikki), and Chad Taylor (Kris); great-granddaughter, Katelyn Amos; brothers, Jerry Joyce (Barbara) and Jack Joyce; and a sister, Brenda Foley.
The funeral service was held on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment was in Buffalo Cemetery. Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge served the family. Online condolences may be offered at www.colonialfh.net.
BUFORD F. CANNADAY
Buford F. Cannaday, age 93, of Stuart, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on Feb. 12, 1925, to the late Charlie Cannaday and Florida Griffith Cannaday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Shough Cannaday; a grandson, C. Michael Cannaday; two sisters, Geneva Craddock, Atrice Underwood; and five brothers, Timothy, Edgar, Gilbert, Odell, and Eugene Cannaday.
He served in the US Army during WWII and was extremely proud of his service. He was a longtime member of New Hope Church of the Brethren and had retired from J.P. Stevens. He loved working in his flowers and his garden.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Pat Cannaday of Stuart; two grandchildren, Tony and Krystal Cannaday, Amy Priest and fiancé, Jeff Winikur; four great grandchildren, Logan and Gracie Cannaday, Braydon Priest, Kinsley Winikur; one sister, Ermigene Cannaday Fulcher of Fieldale; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2, 2018, at New Hope Church of the Brethren and Pastor Rick Randall officiated. Burial took place in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is handled the arrangements. DELAVINIA “DEE” COVINGTON
DeLavinia “Dee” Covington, 95, of Stuart, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. She was born on January 26, 1923, in Patrick County, to the late Walter E. Spencer and Madeline Joyce Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Pete Covington; brothers, J. Paul Spencer, Wayne E. Spencer, Rudolph Spencer, Frank D. Spencer; John Howard Spencer, and Ralph Pinkney Spencer; daughter, Bonnie Covington Ashworth; and grandson, Kristopher Ashworth.
She attended Hillcrest Baptist Church. Her love of animals and flowers will be passed on to family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Covington McCormack; grandson, Kevin Ashworth and wife, Jennifer; great-grandson, Trey Ashworth and wife Lacey; great-granddaughter, Kayla Dee Ann Ashworth and great-great grandson, Spencer Ashworth; three sisters, Nancy Grant from Abingdon, Rachel Cheatwood from Myrtle Beach, S.C. , and Jane Shumate and husband Jesse from Martinsville; special nephew, David Spencer; and sister-in-law, Peggy Jefferson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (today), June 6, 2018, at Norris Funeral Services, Stuart Chapel with Trey Ashworth officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart, VA. Burial will follow the service at Spencer Family Cemetery in Patrick Springs.

Marion Goins, age 76, of Meadows of Dan,passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home. He was born in Stoneville, N.C. on October 4, 1941, to the late Harry I. Goins and Florence Goins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Avin Goins.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Handy Goins of the home; one son, Clarence Goins of Meadows of Dan; one grandson, Eddie Goins; two sisters, Polly Johnson of Madison, N.C. and Pauline Goins of Stoneville, N.C.; four nieces and two nephews.
