Patrick County Circuit Court Clerk Sherri M. Hazlewood and her husband, Richard Wayne Hazlewood, each were charged Tuesday with a misdemeanor count of domestic assault, Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith said.

The charges were filed after deputies responded to a home on Wayside Road in Stuart, according to reports.

In a criminal complaint, Patrick Deputy Matt Rorrer stated that Richard Hazlewood alleged his wife “came at him in an aggressive manner, swinging her arms, almost hitting him,” the report stated. He alleged that he “then pushed her down on the bed to stop her.”

Richard Hazlewood alleged he was “punched in the face,” according to the complaint. Rorrer stated he observed Richard Hazlewood “was bleeding from his lip and left cheek,” he said in the report.

In the complaint by Deputy C.L. Elgin, Sherri Hazlewood alleged the two had “gotten into an argument,” and that she had been shoved “over a mirror and then pinned down on the bed” for several minutes.

Elgin wrote in the report that “after speaking with Richard, he also admitted to holding her on the bed and pushing her around.”

A counsel hearing in the case will be held on Thursday, June 27 in the Patrick County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, according to Michele Bryant, clerk.

A trial date has not yet been set, Bryant added.
