Peggy Smith Harris, 83, of Ridgeway, Virginia passed away on July 2, 2022, with her beloved children by her side. She was born on April 25, 1939, to the late Kefton and Mamie Smith in Saltville, Virginia.

She met the love of her life, James Bascum Harris in April of 1955. The two were married September 1956 and moved to Henry County. She often said she “chased him until he caught her”.

Peggy worked Pannill knitting in Martinsville, Memorial Hospital, and lastly at Canteen Food Services of which she retired after 38 years of service.

She enjoyed life with her family and friends. Shopping, dining out, gardening, working crossword/suduku puzzles, and sewing were some of her favorite activities.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband James B. Harris; daughter, Cindy Harris Hall; brothers, Clifford “Buddy” Smith, Jack Smith, Charles “C.T.” Smith; and sister, Georgia “Toots” Painter.

Mrs. Harris leaves behind a daughter, Sandra Harris Clement (Charlie); son, James Daniel Harris (Mary); son-in-law, Frank Hall; sisters, Hazel Harris, and Carolyn Oakes. She cherished her grandchildren, Allyson Clement, Will Clement, Jamie Hall, Kenneth Bateman (Angie), Angela Bateman Cox (Josh); great grandchildren, Jacob Bateman, McKynzie Bateman, Adyson Bateman, and Teighlor Bateman; and dear friend, Margie Nelson.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday July 6, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Mountain View Cemetery, 711 Church Street, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148.
