Phillip McLaine Owens, age 71, of Stuart, died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke.
He was born on March 24, 1945 and was a son of the late John M. Owens and Mary Esther Hall Owens Cave. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Owens.
He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Slate Mountain Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Chris Owens and Kristin Hylton of Patrick Springs, Mitchell and Beverly Smith of Stuart, Robert Smith of Mount Airy, N.C.; five grandchildren, Eamon Owens, Etta Owens, Caleb Smith, Chloe Smith, Carmen Smith; and one sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Eddie McGilton of Charles Town, W.Va.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Chris McMillian and Mitchell Smith officiating. Burial was in the Mayo Mountain Church cemetery.
