Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is pleased to announce that on Saturday, February 4, Demi Richardson was crowned Miss PHCC 2017.

Richardson, 20, is the daughter of DeeDee Richardson. Demi Richardson sang “Somewhere” from the musical “West Side Story” for her talent. Her platform, “stop silence: surviving and overcoming sexual abuse,” is about helping victims find motivation and beauty in themselves again.

“This is amazing,” Richard said in response to being crowned Miss PHCC 2017. “I am so honored to have participated in this pageant. Working with all of my fellow contestants has been an amazing experience.”

As Miss PHCC 2017, Richardson receives a $500 scholarship from the PHCC Foundation and an $18,000 in-kind scholarship from Hollins University. In June, Richardson advances to compete in the Miss Virginia Pageant.

Jessica Hubbard, the first runner-up, receives a $250 scholarship from the PHCC Foundation. Kalayna Cassady was named the second runner-up.

A winner was also chosen for each portion of the competition. Richardson won the Talent Award, the Swimsuit Award, and the Evening Gown Award.

Cassady whose platform was “psoriasis: more than skin deep” won the Interview Award. Thanks to a donation from Dr. Missy Lannom the winners each receive $100 for their outstanding performances.

Tiffany Gilbert won the award for Most Improved. She receives a $100 scholarship from a donation from Jane Leizer.
