Robert Artis Scott, age 78, of Alton, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at his home.
He was born in South Boston on December 23, 1937 and was a son of the late Artis Taft Scott and Connie Oliver Scott. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Victor Keith Scott Jr., and a brother, Alvin Scott.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a very giving, generous man who would help anyone in need. He truly loved his children, and was of the Christian faith. Surviving are his wife, Mattie Pullins Scott of High Point, N.C. and formerly of Patrick County; four sons and daughters-in-law, Victor Keith Scott and Gaynelle of San Antonio, Tex., Robert Artis Scott II and Heidi of Florida, N.Y., Alvin Ray Scott of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Rodney Scott and Cheryl Simmons of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Joi Hepler, Joshua Scott, Robert Scott III and Rodney Gene Scott Jr.; one great-grandson, Anthony Hepler; one sister, Jean Brown of Sumter, S.C.; one brother, Anthony Scott of Pennsylvania; and a nephew, Willard Bernard Brown of Sumter. Funeral services were held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder G. Joseph Carter officiating. Burial was in the Pullins Family Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
