The Rotary Club of Stuart and Stuart Ruritan Club will hold Pints for Patrick County Partnerships from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Pickle & Ash.
Admission is a $5 donation at the door.
Rotary Club of Stuart President Liz Pierce said the Rotary Club began its Rotary on Tap events in January.
“We’ve been rotating between four different restaurants and we do what’s called a Pints for Event. Each month we pick a different cause and the restaurant donates $1 per drink that’s sold, and then we just invite people to come in and it’s more of a networking community event,” she said.
For the Aug. 27 event, the two groups are teaming up to give local businesses and nonprofit organizations an opportunity to pitch projects that would help them grow or better serve the community.
Participants will have three to five minutes to present their projects. Attendees will vote at the end of the event, and the winning project will receive the money raised that night as well as a day of service from the Rotary and Ruritan clubs.
“Basically we’re going to have the attendees vote at the end, and whatever wins the pitch will win whatever money we raise that night and a day of service between us and the Ruritans. We’re going to team up and pick a day to go out and whether it’s like paint a room or organize,” Pierce said.
As of Aug. 13, three organizations had registered: Primitive Coffee, Patrick County Department of Social Services and Dragon’s Beard Farm & Camp.
Pierce said Primitive Coffee hopes to create a sensory play area behind its shop that would include turf installation, a play zone and outdoor furniture.
The Patrick County Department of Social Services recently created a family-friendly visitation room and is seeking a mural depicting children and families to bring warmth and comfort to the space.
Dragon’s Beard Farm is working to convert an attached garage into a dedicated gluten-free commercial kitchen. The project could include framing and installing a standard door, insulating and sealing the garage space, or plumbing work, Pierce said.
Businesses will be able to set up tables at the event to talk with attendees and network before presenting their pitches.
“We’re just hoping to get a good crowd over at Pickle & Ash. For the businesses that don’t win, if anything it’s going to highlight their businesses and allow them to talk to community members about different ideas they have for how they want to grow their business,” Pierce said.
There is no deadline for businesses and nonprofit organizations to register.
“We were hoping that people would sign up beforehand, but we’re open to people coming and showing up and doing it too. We’ll have paperwork and be able to add them in because we’re just going to do a little ballot sheet. We want as many businesses to participate as possible,” Pierce said.
Businesses and nonprofit organizations interested in participating can register online or contact Pierce at [email protected] for more information.
