Ms. Sandra Kay Martin Akers, age 62, of Spencer, Virginia passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville. She was born in Martinsville on May 24, 1960, to the late Oscar Charlie Martin and the late Edna Pearl Craig Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Martin, one sister-in-law, Angie Martin, and one brother-in-law, Olin Pendleton. Sandra loved flowers, animals, and her family dearly. Ms. Akers will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories of Ms. Akers are three sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Pendleton of Stuart, Virginia, Peggy Haynes (Edward) of Stuart, Virginia, Betty Sue Martin of Stuart, Virginia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Martin (Gayle) of Bassett, Virginia, Kenneth Martin (Ann) of Bassett, Virginia; her lifetime companion, Dewey “Junior” Penn of Spencer, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

A funeral service for Ms. Akers will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Ronald Penn and Pastor Burgie Penn officiating. Burial will follow the service in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Ms. Akers may be made to the PAWS (Patrick Animal Welfare Society), P.O. Box 743, Stuart, VA  24171. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is serving the Akers family, and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
