Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced Monday the launch of a statewide tour aimed at developing a comprehensive economic development policy for Virginia.

The initiative is intended to guide the administration’s efforts to grow the economy, support businesses and workers, and attract new companies to the commonwealth.

Over the coming months, Spanberger and members of her Cabinet will host events across Virginia to gather input from business leaders, industry experts and education partners about ways to strengthen economic development. Sessions already have been held in Harrisonburg and Fairfax.

Spanberger also signed an executive order establishing a Cabinet-level steering committee chaired by Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery to lead the effort.

“From day one, my focus has been building an economy that works for every Virginian and delivers real results for families, businesses, and communities,” Spanberger said.

The administration said the tour will focus on expanding business growth, increasing economic opportunity across Virginia and preparing the state for changes in industries, workforce needs and infrastructure.

Officials said the effort also will address affordability, housing, childcare and energy issues that affect economic growth across the state.
