Spooktacular receives award by Blue Ridge Travel Association

At the 2019 annual meeting of the Blue Ridge Travel Association, Spooktacular took home the award for 2019’s Event of the Year.

Spooktacular, the annual Halloween event in Stuart, coordinated by the Patrick County Young Professionals, saw its biggest year yet in 2019, despite the bad weather forcing the festivities indoors. Spooktacular attracts attendees from all over the region who want a safe and entertaining Halloween trick-or-treat alternative experience.

The Spooktacular event team estimated around 2,000 attended the event in 2018 and felt that about the same attended in 2019, even with the poor weather.

Britt Williams, president of the PCYP, said “The Patrick County Young Professionals are ecstatic and honored to receive the ‘Event of the Year’ award from the Blue Ridge Travel Association, but it is our partners and our community which make this event such a huge success in and for our county. We cannot do it without the support of our community partners, such as the Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council, the Town of Stuart, the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, Clark Gas & Oil, Patrick County Schools, and each individual participant who spends their evening with us. We’re incredibly thankful for the recognition.

“All we can spill about 2020’s event is that we hope to be back on Main Street, and that we are looking forward to good weather and opportunities to celebrate throughout the day. We are fortunate to have sponsors that see what a huge asset this event is to our community, helping provide a safe and fun event for free. However, we are always looking to welcome additional sponsors and partners to the event, especially if we continue to increase attendance year after year,” she said.

“The Blue Ridge Travel Association usually appoints an awards committee that reviews all the events around our region (nineteen counties) and checks for originality, level of interest and success of the event,” said Mary Jo Babbitt, advisor with the Blue Ridge Travel Association.

The Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council extends their congratulations to PCYP and their thanks for everything PCYP does for our community.
