Cougar Softball Splits Double Header

The Lady Cougars hosted Alleghany High in a double header with Alleghany, Friday, May 9. In game 1, the Cougars won 2-0 with a strong pitching performance by Jenna Woods. Woods threw a shutout, giving up only 2 hits. Hayden Lawless had the lone hit for the Cougars, but Journey Moore scored on a safety squeeze by Lilly Hazelwood. Alleghany threw the ball away at first on the play, allowing Lawless to score. In game 2, PC lost 7-1 on a big 4th inning by Alleghany. Three Cougar errors snowballed into 6 runs being scored by the opponents. Moore and Chloe Hubbard each had hits in the loss. 

The Cougars are now 14-4 for the season.

JV Baseball Defeats Radford

The JV Baseball Team hosted Radford, Wednesday, May 7. The Cougars scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings, and the Cougar’s pitching staff held the Bobcats to only 3 hits in the 9-1 victory. 

Mason Cassell led the way at the plate with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Caleb Vaughn had 2 hits, and 2 runs scored. Jaxon Handy chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Cassell went 3 innings on the mound, allowing no hits, no runs, and struck out 3. Mark Register went 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 run, and struck out 4. Handy threw 2 innings, allowing 0 runs, and 2 hits.

Strong Pitching Leads JV Cougars to Road Win

The JV Cougars Baseball Team made the long road trip to Alleghany, Friday, May 9. PC scored runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings, and held on for a 2-0 win behind a dominating pitching performance by Mark Register. Register pitched a complete 7 inning game, allowing only 3 hits, no runs, and striking out an impressive 11 batters. Maddox Taylor led the way at the plate with 2 hits and an RBI. Mason Cassell added an RBI with a suicide squeeze bunt in the 3rd. Noah Cain and Reid Corns contributed with a hit each. 

The JV Cougars are 10-2-1 for the season.

Varsity Softball Defeats Floyd

The Lady Cougars defeated Floyd, 7-6, Tuesday, May 6, in an 8-inning road win. Journey Moore went the distance in the circle for the win, striking out 4. Taylor Lawless and Lilly Hazelwood led the way at the plate, putting up 2 hits each. Lawless also had 3 RBIs. Jenna Woods had 2 RBIs, and Lauren Hazelwood had an RBI in the 8th inning. 

The Cougars are 13-3 for the season.
