Sycamore Baptist Church extends an invitation to current members and friends of the church, and their descendants, to a celebration of past achievements of the church and the Buffalo Ridge community.
The event will be held during the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Sept. 16.
Central to the celebration will be the donation of a wall hanging by the Betsy Ross Miers family containing the names of community residents and church members who contributed to the construction of the original Sycamore Baptist Church building in 1926.
The names on the wall hanging were stitched in needlepoint by Mrs. Miers’ mother, Mattie McKenzie Ross, at the time of the dedication of the new church building.
Also, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Blue Ridge Mission School, photographs of the school grounds and various students and activities of the Mission School will be on display.
“We want to recognize the contributions of past generations to life in our community today,” a news release from event organizers said. “Come, join us and find your ancestor’s or relative’s name on the wall hanging display.”
