Thelma Pendleton Cardwell, age 86, of Stuart and formerly of Ayersville, N.C., died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on October 11, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Oscar Aaron Pendleton and Annie Elner Craig Pendleton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bennie Cardwell; and a sister, Wilda Vipperman.
She was a member of Ayersville Baptist Church; where she sang with the church choir. She retired from Gem Dandy in Madison, N.C., with 32 years of service. She had been a member of Home Demonstration Club in Rockingham County, N.C.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Charles) Steele of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Brent (Beverly “Jane”) Cardwell of Stuart; three granddaughters, Stephanie Leach and husband Francisco of San Antonio, Texas, Candace “Nikki” Parnell of Charleston, S.C., and Shae Cardwell of Stuart; two great-grandchildren, Julia Leach and Javier Leach; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Monnie Hughes Burgess of Athens, Ga., and Janice (Garvin) Newman of Orange City, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and special caregivers, Shelby Willard, Tammy Hodnett, Gail Ramsey and Stacey Combs, all of Stuart.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Ayersville Baptist Church (located on Rt. 770) with Pastor Doug Byrd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
