obit Vandora RainesVandora Raines, 90, of Bassett, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2016.
She was born on July 18, 1925, in Clinchco to the late George and Bessie Cook Rider. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Raines Jr.; a daughter, Donna Gail Meade; and grandson, Marty Killen.
Vandora was of the Baptist faith. She worked at various furniture plants in Bassett for 21 years. While living in Wytheville, she was the editor and writer of the Hedgefield Retirement Community Newsletter.
She loved music, dancing, writing poetry and songs, hunting for fossils, as well as hunting and fishing. Most all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved people and was full of life.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Raines, Bassett; daughters, Patricia Mullins and Jennifer Killen, both of Bassett; Susan Bridges of Meadows of Dan; and Marsha Turpin of Wytheville; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday, May 16, 2016, at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Wood officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
