Varsity Baseball picks up two wins

Gilbert Hubbard led the Cougars at the plate.

The Patrick County Baseball Team defeated Martinsville with a 12-2 win on Senior Night, May 3.

Nash Thompson, Camden Nowlin, Gilbert Hubbard, Troy Cox, and Hunter Strole were honored. Strole picked up the win on the mound and Cox, Nowlin, and Martin Sawyers had 2 hits each. Stuart Callahan had 2 RBIs, and Cox, a senior, had 2 RBIs as well as his 1st career homerun.  

The Cougars also won at Magna Vista 5-2 in 9 innings on May 5. 

Tucker Swails was the start for the Cougars on the mound and pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, striking out 10, and walking none. Jai Penn came in relief and picked up the win, throwing 3 innings with no hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks. The Cougars rallied in the top of the 9th picking up 3 runs on big singles from Hubbard and Penn with Nowlin adding an RBI and Swails getting 2 RBIs. The Cougars were led at the plate by Hubbard who went 3-4 on the night. Penn and Stuart Callahan added 2 hits each.

 

Gilbert Hubbard led the Cougars at the plate.
