Patrick County Cougar Varsity Volleyball team played three matches this week losing at Carroll County before winning their last two matches against Piedmont rivals Martinsville and Magna Vista.
On Monday, the Cougars lost to Carroll in three sets–16-25, 13-25, and 15-25. Izzy Beasley led the team with 5 kills and 17 digs. Jenna King added 16 digs and Ashlee Mesot had a team-high 12 assists for the cause.
The team scored a well-earned victory on Tuesday, defeating Martinsville on the road in three sets, 25-7, 25-12, 25-11. The victory was a complete team effort led by Jenny Vernon’s 6 aces, 5 kills, and 6 digs performance. Beasley also played a key effort with 5 kills and 2 aces. Savannah Roberts had 5 kills and 2 aces, Taylor Vernon had 9 assists and 3 aces, and Ashlee Mesot added 8 assists and 8 aces.
Thursday, the varsity team hosted Magna Vista and won in four set thriller–25-22, 26-24, 20-25, and 25-18. Beasley again led the way to victory with 17 kills, 8 aces, and 10 digs. Mesot led the team in assists with 25 and added 4 aces. Savannah Roberts had 8 kills and 3 aces, and King had 14 digs and 5 aces.
Magna Vista was led by Emily Ray with 8 kills, 11 digs and 4 aces. Morgan Smith had 12 digs and 6 kills. Camille Jamison had 19 digs and 2 aces, with Zariah Scales’ 5 kills, 2 blocks, and game-high 32 assists.
