Visitor’s Center to participate in national initiative

The Patrick County Visitors Center will host seven attractions in seven days, each with a fun-filled day of attraction representatives, giveaways, demonstrations, workshops, and much more during National Travel & Tourism Week, which is May 2 through 8.

COVID-19 protocols will be followed at events.

* Sunday, May 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Blue Ridge Parkway – Learn all about the largest linear National Park in the USA and sign up for a chance to win a Blue Ridge Parkway gift basket, filled with goodies from on and around the parkway.

* Monday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Bull Mountain Arts – Enjoy the indoor popup art gallery of local artists, sneak a peek at the Plein Air painters on the sidewalk, learn from the demonstrations by local artists, participate in the fun Make & Take watercolor workshops outside (weather permitting), and learn more about Bull Mountain Arts and even sign up for memberships while you’re there.

* Tuesday, May 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Laurel Hill: Birthplace of Gen. J.E.B. Stuart – Learn about the birthplace and boyhood home of General J.E.B. Stuart and enter to win two tickets to their annual Civil War Encampment and Living History Weekend on the first weekend of October.

* Wednesday, May 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Patrick County Music Association – Sit in on the all-day jam session, led by PCMA to hear some great local bluegrass music and learn more about their organization.

* Thursday, May 6, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Reynolds Homestead – Enjoy a Mother’s Day card workshop at 9 a.m., a barn quilt demonstration (and purchase kits) at 11 a.m., catch historical figure Nancy Cox Reynolds of the Rock Spring Plantation to hear stories of her home at 12 p.m., and finally, bring the kiddos for a DIY Mother’s Day Card workshop, from 3 p.m. until close.

* Friday, May 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fairy Stone State Park – Chat up the park rangers about the best places to find fairy stones and listen to the legend told by some of the most knowledgeable people on the subject. Sign up to win a $250 Virginia State Parks gift certificate giveaway (can cover a two-night cabin stay) for you and your family.

* Saturday, May 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Primland Resort – Come learn all about our 5-star mountain resort and sign up to win a one-night stay + stargazing + breakfast for two.
