Mrs. Drue Reynolds Hurd, age 89, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  She was born in Patrick County, Virginia, on January 15, 1937, to the late Hassie Turner Reynolds and Lucy Mildred Fulcher Reynolds.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. Herbert Hurd, Jr.; and seven siblings, Mary Irvine Fasano, Ivis Hutcheson, Elva Burgchardt, Hassie “Buddy” Reynolds, Dae Williams, Mae Holoman and Sue Smart. She was a graduate of Averett College where she played basketball. She loved her family more than anything in this world, and they were the center of her heart and her home. She had a special gift for staying connected — faithfully sending cards, thoughtful letters, handwritten notes, and never missing a chance to leave an encouraging Facebook comment. No birthday, holiday, or milestone went unnoticed. She was a natural storyteller who could light up any room, always ready with a memory to share, a joke to tell, or a laugh that brought everyone together. She loved having a good time and made sure the people around her felt welcomed, cared for, and provided for in every way. Her kitchen was one of her greatest love languages. We will forever miss her big breakfasts, her unforgettable Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and especially her desserts — made from treasured recipes she kept close to her heart and shared only at her table. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, hospitality, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Drue is survived by one daughter: Tamara H. Mahaffey and husband, Keith Mahaffey of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Seth Mahaffey and fiancée, Madison Martin, Kegan Mahaffey and wife, Claire Mahaffey, Faith Mahaffey, and Koby Mahaffey and girlfriend, Salem Ward; two great-grandchildren, Norah and Garner Mahaffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Drue Hurd will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.  Burial will immediately follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Kate B. Reynolds, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
