Mrs. Lorene Griffin Martin, age 93 of Stuart, Virginia, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at SOVAH Health in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on November 18, 1927, to Lester and Serberian Griffin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Henry Otis Martin, one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Wayne Martin, and her brother, Lowell Griffin.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Richard) Dickerson of Salem, Virginia, and one son, James “Jimmy” (Tracey) Martin of Stuart, Virginia; five grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Sholes of Salem, Virginia, Michael (Paige) Overby of Saint Augustine, Florida, Kasey Martin and partner Kyle Uselton of Glade Hill, Virginia, Lindsey (Matt) Dunne of New Castle, Virginia, and Leslie Martin of Asheville, North Carolina. Mrs. Martin is also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren, Skyler Wood, Harper Uselton, and Anna Dunne.

Quite the entrepreneur, Mrs. Martin opened several businesses in the area, including Super 58 Restaurant, Little Treasures Daycare, and Moorefield’s Country Store. She attended Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church every Sunday, taught the adult Sunday School class for many years, voluntarily cleaned the church, helped coordinate Vacation Bible School during the Summers, and even coached the Hardin Reynolds Memorial Cheerleading Squad for one basketball season. To say Mrs. Martin loved her family would be an understatement. Her entire life revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. You could always count on being greeted in her home with an intensely long hug. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and she made the best potatoes and sweet tea around for miles. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she will be missed by so many.

The funeral for Mrs. Martin will be held at Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ronnie Gibson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church. The family would like to thank Gracie Harris for the kindness, love, and generosity shown to Mrs. Martin during her final days. Due to COVID restrictions, masks are required for the funeral services for Mrs. Martin.  Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted with the services and online condolences may be made by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
