Sarah Ellen Johnson Norman, age 94, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Woltz Hospice Home.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on May 31, 1921, and was a daughter of the late General Lee and Rosa Mae Goins Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ray Norman; sons, Russell Knott and Roger Knott; a grandson, Darin Calloway; stepdaughters, Genevieve Martin and Judy Woods; a stepson, Michael Norman; a sister, Zelma Rowe; and brothers, Curtis, Bob, Dixie and Vester “Doc” Johnson.
Surviving are daughters, Gail Horton and Glenda Cain; one son, H.R. Knott; a stepdaughter, Debbie Darnell; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church by the Revs. Richard Loman, Arnold Beard and Eric Smith. Burial was in Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.
